Early Years: 1991-1993 In the early 1990's a core group of Waldorf educators, artists, scientists and others formed Sound Circle Center for Arts and Anthroposophy in response to a perceived need for an adult education and training center in the Puget Sound area.
Early Childhood 1993-1995 Following the lead of kindergarten teacher Vreni Von Arx, Sound Circle offered its first year long course in Waldorf Early Childhood Education for parents and teachers. Over five years, 75 members of the Seattle area Waldorf community completed the course - many going on to become teachers and leaders in local Waldorf school communities.
Foundation Year 1995 In 1995 Sound Circle Center's first Foundation Year course in anthroposophical studies prepared 12 individuals for Waldorf teacher training. Students from that course went on to become Waldorf teachers, eurythmists, adult educators, and more.
Eurythmy 1997-2003 Inspired and taught by David Michael and Glenda Monasch, weekend courses, summer intensives, and a part-time eurythmy training attracted students from throughout the region. Four graduates from the training went on to complete their eurythmy certificates in Europe and are now teaching and performing in the Northwest.
Teacher Training 2000 - Present Sparked by overwhelming interest throughout the Puget Sound region, Sound Circle Center launched its 3-year Teacher Training program in 2000. Now entering its 13th year and beginning its tenth Foundation Year in September of 2015, the program continues to flourish. Six classes have graduated from the program, and many of our alumni are now teaching throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond. An experienced and diverse faculty, recognition by the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA), and support from colleagues throughout the country contribute to a thriving teacher training. In addition to our classes during the school year, Sound Circle offers summer programs of continuing education for teachers, with clock hour credit available through the Heritage Institute. Guest teachers from Europe and across America join our local faculty to offer superb courses where participants can renew themselves and replenish their forces for teaching.
Symposia and Sound Circle Story, 2000 - Present Hundreds of participants have attended intensive courses and workshops in the past decade, on subjects ranging from parenting to singing, eurythmy, visual arts, voice, storytelling, board work and collegial work.
Board 1998 - present As Sound Circle Center continues to grow and deepen its work, a strong board of trustees has come together to foster the movement. With a wide variety of experience and talents, the board works behind the scenes to nurture the efforts of Sound Circle Center's faculty and students.
Mentoring Seminar 2005 - 2012 Recognizing the need for continuing support of Waldorf teachers in the area, Sound Circle Center created a mentor training program for the twelve schools in the region. By helping veteran teachers become mentors and bring their considerable experience and support to other teachers in their schools, Sound Circle Center hopes to strengthen the community of Waldorf educators.
