Overview

"Foundation Studies was one of the best investments in myself I’ve ever made. I loved every class, from story-telling to eurythmy to the lectures. My capacities were expanded in every direction, liberating me artistically, philosophically, and perhaps even karmically. I am still amazed at what a fulfilling, soul-enriching, life-changing, and, above all, fun experience I had."  Jim K - Foundation Studies Participant

Sound Circle’s Foundation Studies in Arts and Anthroposophy is a creative gateway into the work of Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) and the profound world-view of Anthroposophy. This program of discovery, self-transformation, personal growth and practical activity leads toward professions that renew culture and heal the earth. Foundation Studies is the prerequisite for the Waldorf Teacher Training Program.  Foundation Studies is about learning to know yourself through the arts.  Knowing oneself is a very important part of becoming a teacher.

Through artistic activity, study, group work, movement, seminars, and more, Foundation Studies offers an opportunity to explore Anthroposophy - the wisdom of being human - through our thinking, feeling, and practical activity.

We study the basic books of Rudolf Steiner through deep questioning in seminars, conversation, the arts, biographical study, journaling, and more.

We develop our individual artistic capacities through painting, drawing, clay modeling, singing, speech, eurythmy, Spatial Dynamics, writing, and more.

We gain experience of life in a Waldorf school, and explore other initiatives in the cultural realm that spring from the work of Rudolf Steiner.

Foundation Studies offers a time for each individual to explore his or her own creative capacities, to study the inner laws of nature, to deepen an understanding of the evolution of human consciousness, in the context of a striving, healthy community.  We invite you to join us.

The next Foundation Studies will begin in September of 2017. To apply, please complete the online application.   Applications are due July 6, 2017.

"Sound Circle has been an oasis for me, something that I look forward to ..The work itself has opened me up emotionally and creatively.  It has unlocked a lot of channels that had been blocked for awhile. There is a playfulness, a joy and a wonder that has been reawakened in me.  I have missed the ritual and the story and the curiosity and the deep belly laughs that I've experienced in the last few months".- Kirsten D, Foundation Studies Student
