Friday: An evening for Waldorf Teachers and Teacher Training students with Michael Howard, author of "Educating the Will", an in-depth study of developing the "will" of our children with practical activities for teachers and parents. Michael Howard will present a lecture and some artistic activities. He will outline how the arts serve human development in keeping with the inner and outer challenges of our time and the foreseeable future. His focus on Friday evening is towards child and teacher development.
Saturday: Michael will outline how the arts serve human development in keeping with the inner and outer challenges of our time and the foreseeable future. He will focus on the faculties and capacities art awakens and develops for human life in general and present his ideas through lecture and artistic activities.
Saturday's presentation is open to the public.
Michael Howard, born in Vancouver, BC, in 1946, began sculpting at the age of fifteen. He received his B.F.A. from Eastern Michigan University and his M.A. in Fine Arts from Columbia Pacific University. He has studied the work of Rudolf Steiner since 1969.
For thirty years, Howard has made an independent study of Rudolf Steiner’s sculpture and taught primarily in Waldorf schools and anthroposophic centers, both in Europe and North America. Since 1985, he has taught sculpture at Sunbridge College in Spring Valley, New York.
His books include:Educating the Will (2004) and Art as Spiritual Activity (lectures by Steiner selected and introduced by Howard) (1997).
